The Boyer Center for Molecular Center was initially organized, a decade ago, to create new research programs in the Yale School of Medicine that focused on molecular biological approaches to the study of human disease. For studies related to oncology and development, molecular cardiobiology, genetics, and neurobiology, faculty were recruited to the Center in collaboration with existing academic departments and with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Now, at the beginning of the second decade of its existence, the research programs of the Center have evolved to meet the changing needs of the School, and new faculty have been recruited to the center who specialize in Microbial Pathogenesis and a program in Vascular Transplantation Pathobiology. Although the research interests of many faculty are now directed to new areas of study, the emphasis on multidisciplinary and molecular biological approaches still remains a guiding principle.
