Connecticut Department of Labor Free Workshops Offered At CT Works Centers in Hamden and New Haven. Calendar of Events

Gateway Community College offers Associates degrees in Early Childhood Education as well as Child Development Associates degrees.

GreatKidsCT.org maintains a statewide calendar of continuing education opportunities.

Hamden Adult Education provides the following programs free to Hamden Residents:

  • Americanization for people wishing to become US Citizens.
    Adult Basic Education (ABE) for Adults who need to "brush up" or learn basic skills.
  • ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).
  • Hamden High School is a GED Test site.
  • Three different routes to earn a high school diploma.

Hamden Kids sponsored by Hamden School Readiness Council whose mission is to work with families and the communities to plan, coordinate, and improve services for all children. They provide calendars for parent workshops, and child care provider workshops.

New Haven Adult and Continuing Education Center provides GED Programs, HS Credit Diploma Program and Enrichment Courses.

The CityWide Youth Coalition (CWYC) is a network of over twenty community-based agencies and resource people working to enhance the lives of New Haven's children, youth and their families. A list of programs offered by City Wide Youth Coalition Member Organizations.

The Resource Center (TRC) at 495 Blake Street serves anyone working in New Haven’s early care and education community with children ages birth to eight years of age. TRC is located in the New Haven Public Schools Early Childhood Learning Center and is open every Wednesday from 4:00 -9: 00 or by appointment. Contact: Sharon Adams (203) 946-5320

TRC offers:

  • A Library of nearly 1,000 books, journals and videos in all areas of early childhood education
    Curriculum kits on over 60 topics and can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks
  • Training opportunities for workshops and courses. Teachers’ Night Out is a monthly series of workshops covering a wide range of curriculum topics.
  • Make it and Take it every Wednesday from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm to all teachers to create materials to use in your classroom
  • Recyclable materials to be taken back to your program
  • A Conference room for training's and meetings

Valley Regional Adult Education provides Adults to earn a high school diploma, to improve their basic literacy skills, to learn English as a second language, to enroll in the Valley Even Start family literacy program, to participate in onsite Workplace Education programs, or to take advantage of numerous enrichment courses offered in each Valley town.

The Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response offers a series of online courses on emergency preparedness topics for health care workers. The courses are free and available to all health care workers. At the end of each course is a brief quiz that tests your comprehension of the material and documents your completion of the course.

The Yale University Teacher Preparation program offers coursework and a certification program for early childhood educators to students at Yale.

WorkLife offers links to Connecticut colleges and universities can help you explore how to begin or continue in a degree program. Some sites also offer non-degree programs.
