The Open Schools Initiative (City of New Haven), part of the broader Mayor’s Youth Initiative, is now beginning. Starting on Monday, June 26, three New Haven schools will be open to kids aged 12 to 18 for free sessions in arts and crafts, swimming, volleyball, dance, theater, martial arts, and other recreational activities. From Monday to Friday, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. until August 11, these three schools—John S. Martinez, King/Robinson, and Hill Regional Career High School—will be completely free and open for any teenager who wishes to drop by. Registration can be completed on-site, and forms are also being distributed at public libraries and online.

Naugatuck Summer Music Festival On The Green 2006 All concerts are Tuesday and start at 7:00 p.m. on the gazebo on the scenic and historic Naugatuck Green located between Meadow Street (Rt. 63) and Church Street. In the event of rain the concerts will be held the next Thursday on the green. July 25 - Marty Swiatek: Polka Night, Naugatuck Style! Marty Swiatek and the group will have the town center hopping all night, as he plays traditional polka music and big band dance favorites. A genuine good time is in store for everyone!

Woodbridge Concerts on the Green, Center Road off Rte 114. Tuesday, July 25 - Moxie. All concerts are free and will take place on the green by the town gazebo from 6 to 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and lawn chairs. In the event of rain, concerts will take place in the Center gymnasium.

The Hyperflite Skyhoundz Wallingford Connecticut Local Championship is an exciting and entertaining contest of canine grace and agility. The event is FREE and open to all purebred and mixed-breed disc-catching dogs and their owners. Teams of all skill levels are invited to compete. Hyperflite Skyhoundz Local Championships provide wholesome, family entertainment along with electrifying displays of canine athleticism. There is no charge for spectators to witness the dogs’ amazing acrobatic feats, powerful leaps and astounding catches as competitors go paw-to-paw in Distance/Accuracy competitions. Yale Peabody Museum, 170 Whitney Ave, (203) 432-5050 The Great Hall of Dinosaurs features a giant mural depicting the history of dinosaurs. Free Concerts on the Green concert series, in downtown New Haven. This year’s concert series, kicks-off on Saturday, July 15 with legendary Country Music sensation Kenny Rogers. It continues with the R&B/Hip-Hop music of Boyz II Men on Saturday, July 22 and culminates on Saturday, July 30 with the soulful sounds of the Temptations. Each of the three Free Concerts on the Green begin with an up and coming opening artist at 6 PM, followed by the headliner at approximately 8 PM . Jazz on the Green: An annual favorite, the New Haven Jazz Festival is one of the City’s signature cultural events. Since its inception in 1981, the New Haven Jazz Festival has brought legendary Grammy award-winning jazz greats to audiences on the historic New Haven Green.
