Greater New Haven Youth Philanthropy Project (YPP). The youth philanthropists of the YPP define themselves as a diverse group of students who dedicate their time, talent, and treasure to develop civic and social awareness in their regional community through leadership and academics. The Youth Philanthropy Project is an innovative youth grant-making and leadership development program for high school students in the Greater New Haven area. YPP was inspired by United Way of Greater New Haven's philosophy that the young people of our community should learn about philanthropic giving and become responsible leaders, donors and investors.

LEAP has led the movement to provide children and youth with opportunities to thrive in all areas of their lives. All people at LEAP are members of a community that supports their personal, educational and professional development and cultivates their value for self, education, and community. Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven is a non-profit educational organization that trains, certifies, and supports tutors to provide tutoring in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Literacy Volunteers (age 17 and older) provide free tutoring to willing adults who want to improve their reading, writing, and oral communication skills. Our goal is to increase the English language skills of these adult students so they can participate more fully in the social, economic, and political life of the community. Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven serves Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Meriden, New Haven, North Haven, Orange, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.

The New Haven Diaper Bank (NHDB), founded in 2004, seeks to provide diapers to as many needy children as possible. We are a local, volunteer driven non-profit organization dedicated to helping young children and their families.

United Way works year-round to help people get involved with their community. We match local agencies and the families they help with workplace employee-teams conducting food and toy drives. We match student groups doing service projects with local nonprofits. We invest in projects that bring people together to make their community stronger.
