Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale University Department of Radiology offer four one-year fellowships in this subspecialty. Experience at both Yale-New Haven Hospital and the West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital is included during this year. Fellows receive training in all areas of diagnostic angiography other than the coronary or intracranial distribution. Vascular interventional techniques include arterial and venous
revascularizations (balloon angioplasty, thrombolysis, and stenting), Nonvascular procedures include the percutaneous management of abscesses, gastrostomies, radiofrequency ablation of tumors, and interventions in the biliary and urinary systems, such as external drainage, internal stenting, dilatation, and lithotripsy. The section also has two endoscopes for percutaneous diagnosis and intervention, principally in the biliary system. Approximately 7000 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed each year. The fellowship also gives experience in more global patient care responsibilities. The Interventional Radiology Section has a clinic and admitting privileges and fellows will cover this service in conjunction with the attending and an advanced nurse practitioner or physicians assistant. Approximately 100 patients per year are admitted to this service and there are over 750 clinic visits each year. On call responsibilities include emergency coverage at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the VA hospital. The fellows rotate call and an attending is always on call with a fellow. The fellow is expected to participate in teaching residents on rotation, and in giving resident conferences. Academic time is available for fellows participating in clinical and basic science activities, and in scientific presentations and papers. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
