Research @ Yale: Exploring the EDGE
In order to increase medical students' exposure to the outstanding faculty conducting research, the school of medicine established a seminar series for medical students called Research @ Yale: Exploring the Edge. In 2003-2004, 14 faculty members were invited to present their work at a lunchtime seminar. The quality of the talks was sensational and the science was spectacular. During the 2004-2005 academic year 12 sessions have been scheduled featuring some of Yale's outstanding scientists. During the first eight sessions there will be presentations by the chairs of the basic science departments who will provide an overview of the major questions in their field, a brief synopsis of the work going on in their own departments, and, of course, a presentation of their own work (Table 1). By the end of the year Yale medical students will have a much better understanding of the breadth and depth of the research that is being conducted by the talented Yale faculty, which should make choosing a thesis mentor less stressful.
