Families flocked
to New Haven from around the United States and abroad for Commencement
exercises on May 24. The 109 graduating students of the Class of 2004 began
the days
ceremonies on Old Campus, where Nobelist David Baltimore and cancer researcher
Bernard Fisher (not to mention slugger Willie Mays) were among those receiving
honorary Yale degrees. Back on Cedar Street, the graduates listened to surgeon
and writer Atul Gawande deliver the Commencement address before receiving
their diplomas and reciting A Yale Physicians Oath, modeled after
the Hippocratic Oath.
