Directions to Battell Chapel

Corner of College and Elm Streets

By Train

Amtrak and Metro-North Commuter lines service New Haven. Metro-North runs every hour from Grand Central Station in New York City. If you are coming from points other than New York, you should use Amtrak. Upon arrival at Union Station in New Haven take a cab to Battell Chapel.

By Bus

Greyhound services New Haven. Take a cab from the bus station to Battell Chapel.

From North or South on I-95

At New Haven, take I-91 North towards Hartford/Springfield (from the South this will be a left-lane exit). From I-91 take Exit 3, Trumbull Street. At the end of the exit go straight. Follow Trumbull Street to Prospect Street and take a left on Prospect. Continue straight. Prospect becomes College Street. Look for Elm and College and park on the street.

From the North or South I-91

At New Haven, take exit 3 for Trumbull Street. At the end of the exit go straight. Follow Trumbull Street to Prospect Street and take a left on Prospect. Continue straight. Prospect becomes College Street. Look for Elm and College and park on the street.

From Merritt/Wilbur Cross Parkway (Route 15)

Take Exit 61 Whitney Avenue. At the end of the exit turn south on Whitney Avenue towards New Haven. Follow Whitney Avenue to Grove Street and take a right. Take your next left on College. Follow until College and Elm intersection. Look for parking on the street.

Directions to Old Campus

From North or South I-95

Take exit for I-91 North toward Hartford-Springfield. Continue for a short distance on I-91 to Exit 3, Trumbull Street. Stay in the middle lane as exiting and continue straight on Trumbull Street. At fourth stoplight, turn left onto Prospect Street. At intersection of Prospect and Grove Streets, Prospect becomes College Street; Woolsey Hall rotunda may be seen on the right. Proceed on College Street, past Wall and Elm Streets until the middle of the next block. The Phelps Archway entrance to Old Campus is in the middle of block, opposite the New Haven Green.

From Merritt/Wilbur Cross Parkway (Route 15)

From north: Take Exit 61. Drive south on Whitney Avenue for approximately five miles. Turn right on Sachem Street at the Peabody Museum traffic light. Continue to next traffic light at Prospect Street and turn left. Proceed until Prospect Street becomes College Street at the Woolsey Hall Rotunda. Follow directions above.

From south: Take exit 57. Drive east on Route 34 (Derby Avenue) for approximately five miles past the Yale athletic fields. Take left onto Route 10 North (Ella T. Grasso Boulevard.) Proceed to fifth traffic light and turn right onto Whalley Avenue. Continue straight for 1.3 miles. Whalley becomes Broadway, and Broadway becomes Elm Street. Commencement guests may be dropped off at the corner of Elm Street and High Street, with entrance to Old Campus on High Street. You may also proceed on Elm Street to College Street. Turn right and proceed to Phelps gate.

University Lots

University lots will be open to the public from 4:00 pm Friday, May 25, through Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day). Locations of all University lots

Satellite parking with wheelchair-accessible shuttle service to Old Campus will be available on the morning of Commencement from 7:30 to 9:45 from the new University parking garage located behind Ingalls Rink hockey arena on Prospect Street.

To Prospect Street

From I-91, take exit 3, Trumbull Street. Stay in middle lane as exiting and continue straight on Trumbull until it ends at Prospect Street, at fourth light. Take right on Prospect. Just beyond first light, turn left into garage entrance. Attendants will be on hand.  *Please note that, while the Ingalls Rink parking garage will be open to the public over Commencement weekend, shuttle service will be offered on Monday only.

Handicap Parking

Cars with valid handicapped tags or license plates will be accommodated on a first-come basis in Yale Lot 51 behind Hendrie Hall.  Directions to Yale Lot 51.
