Professor Hudmon is a behavioral epidemiologist and licensed pharmacist, receiving her B.S. in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University, her M.S. in Pharmacy from Auburn University and her doctorate in public health from the University of Texas. Her research focuses primarily on tobacco, the primary known preventable cause of disability and disease in the United States.

Specifically, her research examines: (a) smoking initiation and cessation among adolescents and young adults; (b) methods for treating tobacco use and dependence through expansion of the clinician's role in cessation; and (c) genetic predisposition for tobacco use and dependence. She has co-coordinated an effort to develop, evaluate, and disseminate a comprehensive tobacco cessation training program, Rx for Change: Clinician-Assisted Tobacco Cessation, for students in the health professions.

Other areas of Dr. Hudmon's research include the study of medication compliance and a statewide evaluation of the California Poison Control System.
