Dr. Debbie Humphries from the CDE/SBS division frequently collaborates with students on international work in
nutrition and physical activity. In the past, she has worked with students on the development of a policy framework for
addressing diabetes prevention and control in India and a review of education interventions for complementary feeding
programs for UNICEF.
Currently, she is advising students working in the following areas:
- Evaluating dietary protein intake in preparation for an intervention to increase protein intake through legume
culture and consumption in Uganda
- Exploring the relationship between household food security and anti-retroviral therapy (ART) adherence in
rural Ethiopia
- Developing an evaluation plan for a school lunch program in India
Additionally, Dr. Humphries is coordinating a “Nutrition in China” symposium, which will be held at Yale in November 2008. This full–day event will review current trends in obesity and undernutrition in China, and promote discussions on a range of
responses to these issues, including policy development and community and school interventions.
