Clinical Interests

Dr. Jakab is involved in multiple aspects of the clinical practice within the Section of Digestive Diseases and Yale New Haven Transplantation Center. Her clinical interests include evaluation and treatment of patients with hepatitis B, C, fatty liver disease, drug-induced liver disease, cirrhosis, as well as management of patients before and after liver transplantation. She also performs liver biopsy, large volume paracentesis, endoscopic evaluation and treatment of esophageal varices, colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening, and general endoscopic evaluation of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Jakab serves as attending hepatologist and attending transplant hepatologist at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Research Interests

Her research interests are focused on treatment of hepatitis B, C, fatty liver disease, medical residents’ education in the management of liver diseases, and living-donor liver transplantation. During her advanced training in hepatology/liver transplantation at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, she conducted research in HLA matching for living-donor liver transplantation and molecular pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Education and Training

Dr. Jakab is a graduate of the Timisoara University of Medicine in Romania. Her internship and residency in Internal Medicine, as well as her gastroenterology fellowship training were completed at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT, programs affiliated with Yale University. She did elective rotations at the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation, Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, and the Department of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery, Lahey Clinic. She received advanced training in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/Jefferson Medical College.
