Research
The research focus of the Section of Hematology is on the cellular
and molecular biology of blood cell differentiation, including hematopoietic
stem cell biology.
In addition to the basic research programs of the primary faculty
members of the Section, such as Dr. Bernard Forget, a number of faculty members from other departments collaborate closely with members of the Section and participate in an NIH-funded
Program Project Grant entitled “The Molecular Basis of Myelopoiesis”.
These faculty members include Dr. Sherman M. Weissman, Department
of Genetics and
Dr. Diane Krause, Department of Laboratory Medicine. A number of
other faculty members of the Department of Laboratory Medicine,
including Dr. Brian Smith, Dr. Harvey Rinder, Dr. Peter McPhedran, Dr. Thomas P. Duffy, Dr. Peter Marks, Dr. Lawrence Solomon and Dr. Edward Snyder, carry out basic and clinical research programs
that relate directly to hematological topics as well as clinical
disorders and provide additional training opportunities for Hematology
Fellows.
Finally, research opportunities are available to trainees in many
of the basic science laboratories of other investigators in the
School of Medicine. Examples of such research programs can be found
at the website of the Yale
Combined Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
