Music

Woolsey HallMusic venues in the city range from classical through acoustic to rock. On the classical front, the New Haven Symphony is the fourth oldest orchestra in the country and has a very active schedule including numerous guest performances. The Yale Symphony Orchestra and the The Yale School of Music sponsor a number of guest concerts by internationally known performers each year as well. There are also a number of excellent rock nightclubs in the city. Perhaps the best known (and frequently rated in the top 5 nightclubs in the United States) is Toad's Place. Similarly, there is a very strong folk music presence in Southern Connecticut as well, both in traditional music performance and traditional dance.  The New Haven Visitor's Bureau has a very complete Web site. Some of the best annual events are New Haven's International Festival of Arts and Ideas held in June each year and the New Haven Jazz Festival held in July.
