Circulation Desk.

Borrowing Library Materials
Patrons may charge materials out at the Circulation Desk of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library with a valid Yale University ID Card or Medical Library Privilege Card. Please see the Library's Privileges Guide for details on who may borrow materials.


Loan Periods & Late Fines

Regular Collection
Circulating materials from the regular and historical collection circulate for two months and can be renewed online. Log in to Your Library Account to renew library materials charged to your account. Overdue fines are $0.50 per day per item past due date up to $15. Fines for overdue recalled materials are $2.00 per day up to $25. Materials in excess of 30 days overdue will be considered lost and borrowers will be billed an additional $95.00 to replace each item.

Course Reserve and Closed Reserve
Course and Closed Reserve materials may be borrowed for four (4) hours for "in building use only." Late fines are $0.05 per minute per item; $25.00 maximum.

Reserve Room Materials
Reserve Room materials can be borrowed for use within the Library for two (2) hours. Late fines are $0.05 per minute per item; $25.00 maximum.

Three-Day Reserves
Three-Day Reserve materials are allowed to circulate for up to three days and may not be renewed online or by email. Overdue fines are $0.50 per day per item past due date up to $15.

Theses
Print copies of Medical, Nursing, EPH, and PA theses are shelved in locked stacks in the Medical Library. To view a thesis, please ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk. With they exception of Nursing theses (copy 2 only), theses do not circulate and therefore must be used in the Medical Library. 

Recall Charged Materials
Materials that are listed in ORBIS as charged out may be recalled from the person currently borrowing the material. Just search for the item you need in ORBIS, click on Place Requests, and follow the instructions.

TIP: BorrowDirect may be a quicker way to get the book you need!

Renew Library Materials you have Borrowed
Log in to Your Library Account to renew library materials charged to your account. NOTE: Materials recalled by another patron cannot be renewed and should be returned to the library.
