Commercial Image Databases
Access to these resources is restricted by IP address to Yale
University and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

images.MD
- images.MD compiles over 50,000 high-quality images spanning all
of internal medicine, all derived from Current Medicine’s
renowned series of illustrated atlases. Each image is accompanied
by detailed and informative text written by over 2,000 contributing
experts.
- Images In Surgery (MD Consult)
- Clinical Image Search is now available from the Current
Practice, Clinical Insights area on MD Consult. These images are
searchable - results will appear in the global search results and
they will be labelled "Clinical Images". You are also able to
search images as a separate category in the Search Within drop-down
box. Areas covered include Pediatrics, Head and Neck, Skin and Soft
Tissue, Genitourinary and Cardiothoracic.
- WebPath
- WebPath version 9.0 has over 4,700 images, over 3,500
examination questions, 42 case-based laboratory exercises, and 44
subject-specific tutorials. There is a radiologic section with
nearly 1,200 correlative radiographs included. There is a
cross-sectional anatomy tutorial utilizing Visible Human Project
images. There is a histology review section with tutorials and over
200 images.

Biomedical
- Congenital Heart
Disease (Yale School of Medicine)
- This web site highlights the important role of dynamic
echocardiography as well as other imaging techniques in the care of
these patients. The software presumes familiarity with
echocardiography and imaging modalities and with medical
terminology. It is intended for an audience of physicians and
health care professionals. Physicians who may find this site
especially useful in practice include internists, pediatricians,
surgeons, as well as adult cardiologists and cardiologists in
training.
- Historical Photo
Gallery (Yale School of Nursing)
- A digital collection of historical materials from the Yale
School of Nursing. Includes images of heraldry, class photos and a
general image gallery.
- Introduction to
Cardiothoracic Imaging (Yale School of Medicine)
- This multimedia atlas, developed at Yale, provides a
comprehensive introduction to cardiothoracic imaging techniques
including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography
(CT), coronary angiography, mammography, chest radiography,
echocardiography, SPECT and planar myocardial perfusion imaging,
and lung ventilation and perfusion nuclear imaging.

- The Cushing/Whitney Medical Digital Library is a growing
collection of digital resources made available on the Web for
scholarship.

Library (HEAL)
- The Health Education Assets Library (HEAL) is a digital library
that provides freely accessible digital teaching materials of the
highest quality that meet the needs of today's health sciences
educators and learners.
- Images
from the History of Medicine (National Library of
Medicine)
- This system provides access to the nearly 60,000 images in the
prints and photograph collection of the History of Medicine
Division (HMD) of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM).
The collection includes portraits, pictures of institutions,
caricatures, genre scenes, and graphic art in a variety of media,
illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine.
- MedEdPORTAL(AAMC)
- MedEdPORTAL is a Web-based tool that promotes collaboration
across disciplines and institutions by facilitating the exchange of
peer reviewed educational materials, knowledge, and solutions.

MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online
Teaching)
- MERLOT is a free and open resource designed primarily for
faculty and students of higher education. Links to online learning
materials are collected here along with annotations such as peer
reviews and assignments. This link is to the Health Sciences Portal page.

- This page contains links to other pages and sites on the
Internet offering biomedically related multimedia material, mostly
images (photos, illustrations, etc.). Occasionally, the material
may be downloaded and used free of charge. Normally, however, the
material is strictly copyrighted, and may be used only after first
having obtained explicit permission by the rightful owner.
- Public Health Image
Library (PHIL) (Centers for Disease Control)
- PHIL offers an organized, universal electronic gateway to CDC's
pictures. We welcome public health professionals, the media,
laboratory scientists, educators, students, and the worldwide
public to use this material for reference, teaching, presentation,
and public health messages. The content is organized into
hierarchical categories of people, places, and science, and is
presented as single images, image sets, and multimedia files.

(Library of Congress)
- American Memory is a gateway to the Library of Congress’s
vast resources of digitized American historical materials.
Comprising more than 9 million items that document U.S. history and
culture, American Memory is organized into more than 100 thematic
collections based on their original format, their subject matter,
or who first created, assembled, or donated them to the
Library.

- Google claims that its Image Search is the most comprehensive on the Web, with billions of images indexed and available for viewing. The Advanced Image Search function allows you to customize your search and to limit your retrieval by such things as image size, coloration or format. You can also choose to return images from a particular domain, e.g., .edu or .org.
