The office is opened Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00

How long will it take to get the material?
On the lending side, most orders are processed the same day they are received, unless there is particularly high volume or material needs to be scanned from the Historical Medical Library. On the borrowing side for Yale patrons, the average turn-around time is 3 days for a copy request and 5 days for a book request to be received.

Can a request be delivered as a rush?
On the lending side, rushes (2-hour turn-around time) are processed for an extra fee . On the borrowing side, Yale patrons may request a rush, the earlier the submission, the better the chance for same-day delivery.

What are the charges?
On the lending side the charges range from $11.00 to $24.00 depending on the delivery method and whether the request is a rush (see fee schedule) There are no charges for Yale patrons, except when an ILL book is lost and needs replacement.

How can I submit a request?
There are online request forms for Yale patrons and non-affiliates. Yale patrons may also submit their requests on ILLiad as well as paper requests which are available at the Medical Circulation Desk, the Information Desk or the DD office.

How long does it take to get an article that I requested from ILL?
An average turn-around time is 3 days for copy requests and about 1 week for loan requests. Turn-around time is same day to 24-hours, depending on submission time of request. There is a free RUSH service for same day delivery, depending on submission time of request.

Can a status check be made for an order?
Yale patrons using ILLiad can check the status of their requests online by logging on and selecting “ Check Outstanding Requests”. Non-affiliated patrons may call 203-785-5358.

There is an article from ILL (InterLibrary Loan) waiting for me, where do I pick it up?
Patrons that have been notified by e-mail or telephone that their Document Delivery request is ready, should go to the Medical Library's Circulation Desk. The article will be held there for one week after notification, then mailed or sent through the electronic Document Delivery service (eDD).

What are the delivery methods?
On the lending side, articles or books may be picked up at the Circulation Desk, faxed, “arieled”, or sent via electronic document delivery or courier service. On the borrowing side, Yale patrons, must sign out ILL books in the DD office, articles may be picked up at the Medical Circulation Desk or can be sent via electronic Document Delivery (eDD)

Are there any types of materials that can’t be requested?
Lending-We do not loan out journal issues or bound journals, materials published prior to 1850, rare and fragile materials, single copy dissertations and microfilms, except for the Cushing microfilms. Borrowing-Yale patrons may be restricted from obtaining the same types of materials as well as current year publications. A request for purchase can be made (Request Journals or Request Books), however, if the book needed fits within the scope of our collections.
