Education and Training for YNHH and Affiliated Sites
The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library offers a range of library
instruction seminars, demonstrations, and training sessions on the use of
electronic information resources. The classes listed below are provided to
individuals and small groups at the Yale-New Haven Hosptial (YNHH) on any
Clinical Workstation or any computer which allows access to library
resources. Large classes can be arranged at alternative locations.
Instruction is also available for individuals at affiliated institutions
and for affiliated physicians at their offices or clinics. Most class are
approximately one hour.

- CINAHL
- Learn how to do a basic author, subject, or textword search, as well as explore the unique features of the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature database.
- Creating Presentations [Using PowerPoint]
- Introduces the following: choosing a design template,
creating different types of slides (bulleted, informational),
creating a simple chart and table, importing an image.
The class will also cover viewing and arranging slides, and
creating presentation notes and handouts. Class is 1.5 hours.
- Drug Information Resources
- Learn to use important drug information resources, such as MicroMedex, Stat!-Ref and MEDLINE.
- EndNote
- Learn basic features of this bibliographic database management program. This class focuses on
successfully importing citations from any Ovid database to your EndNote library.
- Evidence Based Practice
- The session covers searching techniques for the Cochrane Library and Best Evidence. Also learn
about special filters developed to find the evidence-based citations in MEDLINE.
- Library Survival Skills
- This session will cover Orbis (Yale's online catalog for books and
journals), MEDLINE and a useful reference materials. We'll discuss
how the Library can help you get the items you need, how to decipher
confused citations, how to determine if Yale subscribes to certain
journals, how to request articles from other libraries and more!
- Ovid MEDLINE
- This introduction to searching MEDLINE on the Library's Ovid system
covers basic author, journal, subject or textword searching,and how
to print or save the results.
- Micromedex
- Learn to search Micromedex which contains information on toxicology,
drugs, aftercare, reporductive risks, and acute care disease and trauma.
- PubMed
- This introduction to searching MEDLINE using the
National Library of Medicine's PubMed,covers basic
author, journal, subject or textword searching, and
how to print or save the results.
- Web of Science(ISI)/Journal Citation Reports Online
- Discover how to find the citations for a journal article and learn which authors are citing that
article using the Web of Science gateway. The class will also cover ISI's Journal Citation Reports, a
valuable tool providing comparative data to gauge a journals standing within its field.
