Medical periodicals, 17th century - 1920

All of the Medical Library's extensive periodical holdings before 1920 are in the locked stacks of the Historical Library. They are arranged by title, ignoring definite and indefinite articles, prepositions, and conjunctions. Titles are on ORBIS, the Yale University Library catalog.

To retrieve a journal, fill out the white request form at the Historical Library. We will get the volume for you. If the volume is in good condition, you may be able to photocopy an article.

The Historical Library has purchased a microfilm series, American Medical Periodicals which includes microfilm of several hundred 19th century American periodicals. Entries for individual titles of these periodicals are on ORBIS. To browse which titles have been filmed, consult the guide to the collection. The microfilm and a guide are in the Information Room of the Medical Library in a beige metal cabinet to the left and rear of the Information Desk. Microfilm does not circulate. Use the microfilm reader in the Information Room.

For those outside Yale, articles may be requested via Interlibrary Loan through your institution. Some volumes are too fragile to be photocopied.
