Resources for finding critical appraisals of research articles

Several journals publish critiques of original research articles. These critiques can help you to judge the quality of original research.

  • ACP Journal Club Collection

The ACP Journal Club Collection is comprised of the ACP Journal Club, published by the American College of Physicians, and Evidence-Based Medicine, published by BMJ. Both journals look for original research and systematic reviews that may be of widespread importance to clinicians. A brief review of the research or systematic review is presented. To find this material, do a topical search in Ovid and limit the results to EBM Reviews.

  • Evidence Based Nursing (BMJ)

Evidence Based Nursing provides critiques of research articles from both the nursing and the medical literature. It is indexed in both MEDLINE and CINAHL. Do a topical search in CINAHL and limit to the Special Interest Category "evidence based practice".
