Electronic Textbooks

The following is a sample of the electronic nursing textbooks available from the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library and Nursing Library. Consult the full list of electronic books to find resources in other disciplines.

Cardiac Nursing (Woods) Comprehensive text, known as the "red book". Reviews anatomy, pathology, assessment and treatment. Includes a section on health promotion and disease prevention.
Cecil Textbook of Medicine Comprehensive coverage of the scientific foundations and biological basis of disease processes; an introduction to clinical practice protocols; current concepts of pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment.
Conn's Current Therapy Guidance on the latest advances in diagnostics, therapeutics, and patient care.
DSM-IV-TR™ Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders.
Essentials of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Jonas) An overview of the topic, with chapters on specific areas such as holistic nursing and massage therapy.
Fluid and Electrolyte Balance: Nursing Considerations (Metheny) Background, description of clinical situations associated with fluid and electrolyte problems, special considerations for children and older patients.
Harrison's Online Based on the classic Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine. The online version includes current news, concise reviews and data from clinical trials.
Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice Comprehensive coverage of medical/surgical, maternal/newborn, pediatrics, and mental health; new appendix of vitamins. Includes drug alerts, standards of care and patient teaching.
Nutrition Essentials for Nursing Practice (Dudek) Basic nutrition and clinical applications. Includes drug alerts for drug and food interactions, and special diets.
Pediatric Care Planning (Speer) Addresses many of the major illnesses affecting pediatric patients; includes home health care, perioperative care, and care of children undergoing diagnostic procedures.
