Creating Links
to Full Text
The
library maintains
current linking information for our electronic journals in the library's SFX
database. When you find a citation in a research database and click on
the Yale Library SFX button, the SFX system constructs a URL on the fly that
incorporates the current linking information. You can use the SFX OpenURL Generator
to build a dynamic URL to a full text journal article that will continue to
work even if the "static URL" for a journal changes.
SFX OpenURL
Generator
You
will first
open your Blackboard course and go to the place where you wish to insert a link
to full text. You may do this, for example, in the Assignments or External Links
areas of Blackboard. Please consult Blackboard documentation for more instructions
on using Blackboard. Fill in all the information about the citation you are
giving. When you are ready to insert a link, follow these instructions:
- Go to
the OpenURL
Generator
-
Fill in the following
information:
full journal title (omit leading articles, e.g., a, an, the)
year
volume
issue
start page
- Check the "View
OpenURL" box and select Submit.
- An SFX
menu with the
OpenURL will be displayed. Highlight and copy the OpenURL to your Blackboard
course.
