Hints
for Using
Ovid Jumpstart to Create Links to Ovid Journals
Before you begin to input URLs, you will need to open
an Ovid
session. Search an Ovid database (e.g., MEDLINE, CINAHL) for the
article that
you want to create a link to from Blackboard. Once you have found the
citation:
- Click
on Ovid Full Text (when this is available)
- Scroll
to the bottom of the page
-
Find
the accession number. This is the code that you will use to
create
the jumpstart.
- Highlight and
copy the accession number.
- Insert
the
accession number in the following URL http://gateway.ovid.com/ovidweb.cgi?T=JS&MODE=ovid&PAGE=fulltext&D=ovft&FIGS=full&AN=Insert
Accession Number Here&LOGOUT=y
For
example, to
create an Ovid jumpstart for the article "Critical Incidents and
Chronic
Stressors at Work: Their Impact on Forensic Doctors" in
Journal of
Occupational Health Psychology you would copy the Accession Number
00060745-200304000-00006
and insert it into the URL to create the jumpstart:
http://gateway.ovid.com/ovidweb.cgi?T=JS&MODE=ovid&PAGE=fulltext&D=ovft&FIGS=full&AN=00060745-200304000-00006&LOGOUT=y
Reasons
why this
method may fail
- You
copy the
Accession Number incorrectly or insert the number in the wrong
place.
- Your
student
is not on the Yale network and is refused access to the article. When
this
happens, direct the student to the Medical
Library's Proxy Server.
- The
Ovid server
is temporarily down. This happens occasionally and is usually
corrected quickly.
- The
library
stops its subscription to the journal through Ovid and now purchases
it from
another vendor. This type of change affects the URL for the full
text. To
prevent this type of problem, you may use the SFX
OpenURL Generator. You may also use the OpenURL
Generator
