Praxis Manual
The Praxis Manual is
a comprehensive guide designed to give you an insight into
how to design your research strategies, what the written requirements are, and information about how the final document
should be written and presented. There are also some
general guidelines available about
the praxis options and some basic praxis requirements.
The scholarly praxis is due at the completion of your course.
Style and Writing Guides
Your praxis must follow the guidelines of the Publication Manual of
the American
Psychological Association, 5th ed. Note that this is a newly published
edition. Changes in the 5th edition are outlined on the APA's Web site.
You
may purchase the Publication Manual from the APA Web site or from a
bookstore. A copy is available in the Reference Room Librarian Office and a
copy is
also available in the Medical Library Reference section Ref 20 BF76.7 P83
2001.
Front Matter
This Word file contains pages you must include at the front of
your praxis. Download the file and insert the pages at the
beginning of
your praxis. Look carefully for the places where you must fill in the
title of your paper, your name and the type of paper you are submitting.

Managing Citations
You may find that citation managers such as RefWorks and Endnote will be very helpful to you in
writing your praxis. Both of these programs will help you organize your references, and
will automatically create an APA style list of references.
The Library has an Endnote/RefWorks resource Web page, and a special citation management classes are being offered to help you with using it for your praxis. Contact Janene Batten to find out more about these classes.
Refworks or EndNote? RefWorks is web-based and freely available through a link on the Library website. Endnote is machine specific and is available in the YSN
Computer Lab and in the Computer Resource Lab in the basement
of the Medical Library. Or you can purchase a version and have it on your own computer. Purchase Endnote online from the Yale
Eportal. If you are a Yale student you are eligible for discount
pricing. You may want to check other retailers to see if they may have
a cheaper price (you will have to verify that you are a student to
qualify for educational pricing). One possibility is to check price
comparisons at The Consumer
Guide site.
Faculty Research Interests
If you are looking for guidance for you topic, please refer to the
Faculty Research Interest list which shows
the research interests for each of the faculty members here at YSN, as well as the type of Praxis they are willing to advise.
