Home | Library Services & Information | Information Desk
As you enter the Medical Library, follow the main hallway
through the rotunda to the Information Room. The Information Desk
is located in this room. Medical Librarians and Reference
Assistants staff the desk and offer reference assistance. Reference
assistance includes answering directional and reference questions,
providing instruction, technical assistance and referral.
Directional questions provide information on how to locate
resources within the Library. Reference questions are requests for
assistance in locating specific information. We answered over
20,000 reference questions in the 1999-2000 fiscal year. Staff may
either locate the information for you, direct you to a useful
resource or suggest other possibilities. Instruction in the use of
both print and electronic resources is offered as well. Technical
assistance includes problems with accessing online resources and
equipment malfunction. If the Information Desk staff feel it is
best to refer you outside the Library, we will direct you to the
appropriate library, office or individual to answer your
questions.

The Information Desk staff rely heavily on resources from the Reference Collection. This collection provides quick information to answer many of your questions. The print collection is shelved in the Information Room along the far wall and arranged by category. Reference resources are included in Orbis and designated by a reference number, e.g. Ref 17 RA125. A list of Internet Reference Resources is also available.
Interlibrary loan forms are distributed from the Information Desk, but are also available electronically for your convenience.
