Borrowing Library Materials

Patrons may charge materials out at the Circulation Desk of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library with a valid Yale University ID Card or Medical Library Privilege Card. Please see the Library's Privileges Guide for details on who may borrow materials.

Recall Charged Materials

Materials that are listed in ORBIS as charged out may be recalled from the person currently borrowing the material. Just search for the item you need in ORBIS, click on Place Requests, and follow the instructions.

Renew Library Materials you have Borrowed

Log in to Your Library Account to renew library materials charged to your account. NOTE: Materials recalled by another patron cannot be renewed and should be returned to the library.

Paging Service

The Circulation Department will retrieve books from the Medical Library's general collection and place them on hold for you. Books will be held at the Circulation Desk for three days.

This service is available to patrons with a valid Yale University or Premium Service Medical Library Privileges card.

  • Here's how paging works:
    Search Orbis for the item you need and click on "Place Requests." Log into "Your Library Account" and choose to have the item held at the Medical Library for you to pick up. Materials will be ready for you to pick up by day's end. You can come to pick up the book sometime within the next ten days. If the paging request cannot be filled, you will be notified by email.

Please Note:
Eli Express You can request circulating materials from other Yale libraries to be delivered to the Medical Library by simply following the same procedures. These requests will be filled within 24 hours on regular business days.
