The Medical Library offers public computers for use in the Information Room and the Computer Resource Laboratory (CRL) . All computers have Internet access and selected computers have productivity software such as Microsoft Office, EndNote and special software for statistical and multi-media applications. Access to "productivity" and digital workstations requires a Yale Medical Center NetID. The CRL is a 24x7 room on the basement level. Access is through the library whenever the library is open. When the library is closed the CRL can be accessed through an outside door in the back corridor off the main Sterling Hall of Medicine stairway.
All computers are equipped with CD "burners" and DVD-ROMs. Select computers have DVD "burners". All computers (and most monitors) have USB ports for personal USB portable storage devices. Each computer is equipped with common browser plug-ins, such as: Adobe Acrobat Reader, Quicktime, Real Player, Shockwave, Flash and Windows Media Player. All run Norton Antivirus.
The Library offers two scanning stations in the Computer Resource Lab's Digital Imaging Center. One of the CRL digital imaging workstations runs Windows and the other is a Mac. Both of these workstations have full featured graphics creation and OCR software. See below for specific details.
The Yale Wireless network is available throughout the Medical Library to registered wireless devices. Library patrons may bring their own laptops to the library and may connect to the the Yale network via wired ethernet laptop stations or via the Yale Wireless network. The Circulation Desk lends digital cameras and a digital video camera to anyone with a valid Yale University ID. You may purchase blank CDR or CD/RWs from the Circulation Desk. The Library also has a laptop computer loaner program exclusively for medical center students.
