Incoming & Returning Student Computing Help

MSQ (Matriculating Student Questionnaire) for the Class of 2014

We've gathered links from the Medical Library and ITS (Information Technology Services) Websites that should address many of the computing and technology questions you have.

Support for School of Medicine students' personal computers is available through the ITS Computer Support Center (CSC) and the ITS Help Desk. The CSC is located in the Medical Library on the Journal level and is staffed from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. The ITS Help Desk can be reached by phone between Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm.

Any issues regarding access to or use of Medical Library computers should be directed to a member of the Library staff at one of our service points. For further assistance, contact Mark Gentry, Coordinator for Medical Library Technology Services & Support (mark.gentry@yale.edu, 203-785-2163) or Jason Reinstedler, IT Support Specialist (jason.reinstedler@yale.edu, 203-785-5770) .

Returning Students Take Note

  • YaleSecure - Always connect to the YaleSecure WiFi network when on the Medical School Wireless Network. Unlike the "yale wireless" network, the VPN is not required when you connect to YaleSecure. For more information ...
  • AnyConnect VPN Client - This new and improved VPN client from Cisco is available from the ITS Software Library. AnyConnect is the recommended remote access method for most users and most applications. For further information ...
  • PPTP VPN connectivity - This method of connecting will be phased out this Fall. Unlike the older Cisco IPSEC client, the AnyConnect client is compatible with both Windows Vista and Windows 7 and is the recommended solution for most users. Another option is to convert your existing PPTP connection to L2TP protocol.
  • Symantec Antivirus 10 support ends 9/30 - Windows users who previously download SAV10 from the ITS Software Library should switch to the new Symantec EndPoint Protection 11 before the end of September. Yale students may download the software for free from the ITS Software Library. More information is on the ITS antivirus service page.
  • New Statistical Software in the Library - Over the summer we added 2 new statistical packages to selected computers in the Medical Library's Computer Resource Lab. MatLab is now on the 3 Macintosh Workstations in the CRL and will eventually be added to the Windows Workstations in that area. We have also acquired a single user license to atlas.ti, software for managing qualitative data in various formats. Atlas.ti is installed only on the Windows Imaging/Scanning Workstation.
