Installation Instructions for Stat!Ref PIER
Palm handheld users at Yale University may download STAT!Ref's point-of-care PDA application - Physician Information and Education Resource (PIER) - from the American College of Physicians. This is a high quality, evidence-based resource useful to clinicians and students in a number of specialties. Content is added on a regular basis, generally each month.
Requirements:
- Palm OS, Windows Operating system
- Mac user must install this through the PDA Software Workstation
- ~200KB free Main Memory
- At least 22 MB free memory on expansion card
PDA Software Workstation You may prefer to install the application directly to your handheld from the Medical Library's
"PDA Software Workstation" located in the Library's Information Room.
This is the only option for Mac users.

Download Stat!RefPDA PIER
- Click "Save" to save the file called STATRefPDA.exe to your computer's hard disk. Any place will work as long as you remember where you put it.
- After the download windows closes, navigate to the designated location and double click on STATRefPDA.exe
- Follow instructions to install STAT!Ref PDA:PIER onto your computer.
- Install the file STATRef.prc to your handheld device's main memory. Install the largest file, PPDOC.pdb (approx. 21 Megabytes), along the other smaller pdb files to your PDA's Memory Card. The Palm Install Tool will allow you to change the destination of the files.
- Perform a HotSync operation to install the application on your PDA.
- STAT!Ref PDA:PIER must be registered to disable the nagging feature that is built in.
Register PIER now
- Enter your Palm OS HotSync Id, name and e-mail address on the registration form to receive your registration code. (You will also you an e-mail with your registration code for you to have for your records.)
- Enter the registration code when your are prompted by STAT!Ref PDA:PIER. Once entered, the registration code is good for up to 12 months.
- STAT!Ref PDA: PIER is updated monthly, so remember to repeat steps 1 - 5 periodically to keep up with ACP PIER's latest information.
