Printing
in the Medical Library from your Laptop
(The following instructions were created using OS X version 10.4.4. You may find slight differences depending on the version of the OS you are running)
These instructions will configure your Mac laptop to print to the Medical Library's Pay for Print system. Once configured, this printer will be available to you whenever you are on the Yale network. You will need to use a Copico card to retrieve your print jobs. The printing charge is 7 cents per page. You must be connected to the Yale network both during the initial setup and whenever you want to print. If you using the wireless network, you need to establish a VPN connection before you begin.
The first set of instructions is for the Medical Library's Information Room printers. These print in gray scale and each page printed costs 7 cents. At the bottom of this page are instructions for the Color Printer. Each page sent to the color printer will deduct 50 cents from your copy card. The printer is located in the staff area behind the Circulation Desk. Ask desk staff to retrieve the printouts for you.
Note that you will NOT use your NetID to retrieve any documents you sent to the printer from your Mac laptop. Instead you will use your Mac's "short name" (explained below in more detail).
Adding the Medical Library INFORMATION ROOM Printers

In the Print Browser dialog box, select or enter the following:

Retrieving your Print Jobs
Retrieve your print jobs through one of the Printer Pay Stations
located in the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library's Information Room.
You must have a Copico copy card to send pages to the printer.
>>>The print jobs will NOT be listed under your NetID. They will be listed on the paystation under your computer's "SHORT NAME". You can find your computer's "short name" under System Preferences >>> Accounts.
Your print jobs will go to the printer(s) nearest the Pay Station you use to pay for the printouts.
PRINTING IN DUPLEX (TWO-SIDED) MODE
The printers in the Medical Library offer the option of duplex printing. Two-sided printing saves tree but does not save you any money. You will be charged for each PAGE you print, not each piece of PAPER. To print a document in two-sided format:
