Upon matriculation, each student will be designated a Faculty Advisor and two member committee (Faculty Advisory Committee) from the Microbiology Program faculty. The Director of Graduate Studies will coordinate the establishment of this committee and will consider the expressed research interest or background of the student in establishing the membership of this committee. The Faculty Advisory Committee will advise students concerning course work and other matters arising in the first and second years. As a student determines her/his thesis research advisor and a Thesis Committee is formed (during the second year) which will act to advise the student during the execution of the dissertation research as well as to monitor the progress of the student. Membership in the Thesis Committee is determined by the student and the Thesis advisor. The student is expected to meet with his/her Thesis Advisory Committee at least once a year and when the student and/or Thesis Advisor considers it necessary.
