Yale Neurology Residency
Nightfloat
The
Night Float Rotation was designed to increase continuity of care for
inpatients
during nightime while meeting the work hour requirements for residency
training mandated
by the
ACGME. PGY-2 and PGY-3 neurology residents will both participate in
Night Float
in 2 two-week blocks during the academic year. Night Float works 6
nights per
week, with Saturday off. Duty begins at 8:00 PM and ends at 10:00 AM
Sunday through Friday nights. On Saturday mornings the Night Float
resident
will be expected to round with ward team and should leave the hospital
no later
than 1 PM. During the time
they are
on duty, the Night Float resident will attend to all matters pertaining
to the
Yale Neurology inpatient service, evaluate new patients in the ED, and
provide
the initial and comprehensive care to newly admitted patients and
consults on
other inpatient services. All patient interactions will be presented
during
morning resident work rounds. All newly admitted patients and consults
will be
presented to attendings during morning report. Daytime activities such
as
continuity clinics are not scheduled during this rotation.
