Application Procedure for Residency
Application
Our program will be participating in the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Please submit all application requirements directly to your Dean's Office. International medical graduates should apply through the ECFMG office. No applications should be sent through the mail. We will require the following for a completed application:
- USMLE Part 1 score of 205 or higher
- Brief curriculum vitae. (CV with the ERAS program is acceptable)
- Letters of reference. Three specific letters are required.
a) Letter from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
b) Letter from the Department of Medicine of your Medical School is mandatory (preferably a senior faculty member).
c) Dean's letter
- Medical School Transcript
- Although a photograph is optional, it will be of great importance to track applicants after their interviews since the final selection process depends heavily upon the interviewers' personal recollections.
- Other letters of support are welcome.
Interview and Selection Procedure
- Candidate's application will be considered only if all requirements listed in the application procedure are completed and received. This is the applicant's responsibility.
- All applications need to be completed by November 15th and applications not completed by that date may not be considered.
- When your application is complete you will be notified whether or not you have been selected for an interview.
Selected candidates will be invited for an interview at Yale, usually on a Saturday during December or January. Faculty, staff, and residents will then meet with the candidates and tours of the Hospital will be conducted. Candidates are encouraged not to request special times for interviews during the week, as staff and residents may not be available to give the time and permit leisurely interaction necessary for you to look at us and for us to look at you. However, if you are not available on the dates of the scheduled interviews but wish to be considered please contact Patti Johnson, at 203-785-4004 or by email at patricia.m.Johnson@yale.edu
Requirements for Foreign Graduates
- Our programs will be participating in ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). No applications will be accepted through the mail.
- We require that a foreign graduate have at least one month on an acute medicine service in the United States before he/she can be considered for residency. Without this rotation, somewhere in the United States, it will not be possible to interview for our program. We require a confidential evaluation by a supervisor as evidence and evaluation of this experience.
- Passed USMLE Part I with board score of 205 or higher. Do not require Step 2 or 3 for application. A valid passed English test. ECFMG may be asked whether they will furnish a certificate if they have not done so.
- Before the final match you must have valid ECFMG certificate.
- We do not sponsor visas. You must be prepared to accept a J1 visa sponsored by ECFMG prior to entering the residency, if you are matched with Yale.
- Deadline for applications is November 15th.
- No requirement regarding graduation from medical school
