Training Program in Psychiatry

PG1-2 Years:
Inpatient Psychiatry: Clinical Care & Research

Patient care in inpatient clinical settings is supported by formalized, mentored, clinical training in the principles of human behavior.

The resident is introduced to research through the care of patients enrolled in investigational protocols, including those admitted to the research-dedicated Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit.

Specialized case-conferences and seminars are devoted to understanding the clinical syndrome in depth and integrating clinical phenomena with our current knowledge of neurobiologic mechanisms and treatments.

In addition to the formal avenues provided by conferences and seminars, there are additional informal opportunities for initial research involvement during these rotations, including writing case-reports, review articles, and drafting research proposals for formal review.

Required Rotations:
Inpatient Psychiatry 6 months
Partial Hospital 3 months
Consultation Psychiatry 1 month
Emergency Psychiatry 1 month
Child Psychiatry 1 month
Research Elective 3 months, on the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit (CNRU) of the Connecticut Mental Health Center
