EducationGeneral Residency Applicant InformationDear Applicant:Thank you for your interest in our Residency Training Program. Please review the brochure that describes the main features of our Program. PGY-I applicants: you will apply through your Medical School's Dean of Student Affairs or, if you are a graduate of a non-U.S. medical college, you will apply through the ECFMG office (we will be accepting applications only through the ERAS process). Electronic application through ERAS will be available to you starting August 15th. If you are applying for an advanced position you may use the Application Form. Please include the following: a brief typewritten autobiography (about 500 words). We would like to know a bit about you as a personyour interests, experiences and aspirations. It would also be helpful to describe your reasons, both professional and personal, for choosing the field of psychiatry. A recent small color photo is optional but appreciated. We will need to have additional information, requested by you but sent directly from the sources:
If you are an International Medical Graduate please enclose a copy of your ECFMG certificate and a copy of your medical school diploma. For all applicants, we request that you send some additional information, which should be incorporated into your personal statement:
We accept 12 PGY-I residents each year, only through the Match. We also accept 4 PGY-II residents, not through the Match. Occasionally we have openings for more advanced positions; if you call us at 203-785-2095 we can advise you about this. We will begin interviewing in November. Once your application has been reviewed you will be notified about whether we can offer you an interview. The site of the 6 month Internal Medicine rotation during the PGY-I year is either Yale New Haven Hospital or the Hospital of Saint Raphael; your single application to the Yale Psychiatry Program will suffice for both sites. If you are an international medical graduate, please note that we require that you have passed steps 1 & 2 of the USMLE without failures. Although we have no minimum score requirement to consider you for our Program, we will not consider your application if you have taken the USMLE steps multiple times. We require supervised clinical experience (externships, not observerships) in the United States along with reference letters from the supervisors at these sites. We do not sponsor any visas but J-1 visas are available through ECFMG. Please see Letter to International Medical Graduates for more information. If you have any questions, please call Anne Morrison, Residency Coordinator at 203-785-2094.
