Education1975, BSW, Temple University Professional InterestsAs a child psychologist, I am broadly interested in ways the principles of developmental psychopathology can be used to explore the impact of parental substance abuse on family process, parent-child relationships, and the psychosocial development of children. Ongoing projects are focusing on the psychosocial adjustment of substance-abusing men as fathers, the development of gender-specific parent interventions for fathers and mothers enrolled in substance abuse treatment, and the psychosocial correlates of substance use among teens living in suburban affluence. As a clinician, I am interested in the psychological assessment and treatment of children who have been abused and neglected, and I am interested in developmentally informed assessment and treatment of young adults with serious psychiatric difficulty. As an educator, I am interested in promoting understanding of substance abuse within the child welfare and child guidance systems, and I am interested in promoting understanding of family process and child development within the substance abuse treatment system.
