Research Interest

My research interests lie in three primary areas: the mental health of female veterans, gambling and other addictions in people with serious mental illness, and the interface between mental health and criminal justice systems. My work involves exploring the risk and protective factors related to mental health services utilization, and the clinical outcomes associated with mental health care. I am currently conducting three primary data collection studies: a national evaluation of an intervention called Seeking Safety for homeless female veterans; a study of gambling and other potentially addictive behaviors in high school students; and a study of the clinical outcomes associated with jail diversion programs. Future studies will focus on the mental health of juveniles in detention; disproportionate minority confinement in jails and detention centers; and the processes of judicial decision-making in juvenile adjudication.
