Division of Human GeneticsDivision of Human Genetics Human genetics is a rapidly moving research field that is providing us with impressive novel insights into the mechanisms of human health and disease. The Division of Human Genetics was formed in March 2004 to provide a center of focus for psychiatric genetics research, and more generally, the study of genetics of complex traits, at Yale. Researchers in this division study genetics of a wide range of traits in psychiatry, with a major concentration on substance dependence research – genetics of alcohol, opioid, cocaine, and tobacco dependence, and related traits. Other projects involve anxiety, affective disorder, and schizophrenia genetics. Division researchers also have extensive collaborations with other Yale researchers in the study of pharmacogenetics, neuroimaging, genetic anthropology, and numerous additional phenotypes associated with psychiatric illness. Special populations are often helpful in genetics research, and division researchers therefore have collaborations in Thailand, Russia, Israel, Finland, and China.
