Libraries, Museums, and Theatres Abound at Yale

Yale Art Gallery: this is the oldest University Art Museum in the Western Hemisphere; filled with the likes of Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet etc.

Yale Center for British Art: largest collection of British Art outside of the British Isles

Yale Rep. Theatre: famous plays, musicals, actors Yale Cabaret: features Yale drama students that hope to be famous Other local theatres include the Longwharf and Shubert Theatres. My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, and South Pacific all opened on the stage of the Shubert.

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library: houses 500,000 volumes and millions of manuscripts; rare books on display include an original Gutenberg Bible ("A fine place to come and read about psychiatry on a relaxing afternoon.") Eclectic architecture of Yale's campus surrounds the library.

Peabody Museum of Natural History: this famous Yale museum of natural history (established 1886) houses such goodies as dinosaur bones, meteorites, and the like.

Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library: State of the art medical library with over 400,000 volumes and subscriptions to over 2,500 medical journals.
