New Haven Green (established 1638)

New Haven is the first planned city in America. The City is built in a tic-tac-toe grid formation of nine squares. The Green is the middle square and Yale University occupies much of the north three squares. Streets closed off to traffic and site of outdoor entertainment on weekends in the warmer months (Jazz Fest, Summertime Street Festival, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, New Haven Antique Show, etc). Football and Frisbee first invented in New Haven, These sports are rumored to have had their first showings on the Green.
