Inpatient Control Measures
Identification of VRE + Patients
When VRE is isolated from a patient specimen (colonization or infection), the patient must be place on Contact Precautions. The patient's clinician upon receipt of such culture results should initiate Contact Precautions by entering the order for Contact Precautions into CCSS and placing a note in the H&P section which documents the need for Contact Precautions. HEIC reviews inpatient microbiology data daily and will notify the appropriate floor/nurse to place the patient on Contract Precautions if VRE has been isolated from a clinical specimen. A Contact Precautions sign must be placed on the door of the patient's room and on the outside of the patient's medical record.
