Surveillance/Outbreak Control
Routine Surveillance
HEIC performs surveillance for VRE in high risk patient care units. Surveillance data is used to monitor for outbreaks, transmission, and efficacy of control measures. Patients identified by surveillance are placed on Contact Precautions and cared for in the manner above.

Cluster/Outbreak Measures
Additional infection control measures may be utilized to control transmission if increased numbers of patients with VRE become evident on a patient care unit or service. HEIC will determine if environmental cultures and/or point prevalence surveys are required.
