Organism-Specific Precautions
MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

LEVEL 3 MRSA PRECAUTIONS:

 
Patients with known MRSA colonization/infection who are not able to comply with infection control measures (i.e., not able to perform hand hygiene, cover their mouth if he/she has a cough, etc.) are to be placed on Level 3 MRSA Precautions.

Aggressive hand hygiene by staff before and after all patient contact.
Contact Precautions shall be used for direct patient care.
Use dedicated patient care equipment or clean all shared patient care equipment with an approved EPA disinfectant before use on another patient.
Placement in a private room.
If the patient leaves the room, the patient should be appropriately supervised to minimize direct contact with other persons.
